Polymer (FDM) 3D Printing can produce great functional parts for a wide variety of applications but if your in need of something more than just the standard finish we offer, then considering a custom finish over our standard finishes would be beneficial for optimizing your parts end-quality. Below you’ll find our qualities guide, we offer a wide variety of finishes that can help improve the parts look, dimensional accuracy, and performance.
Sanding
We can manually sand the surface of a part to either remove layer lines which can improve the surface quality(depending on the material being printed) or prep for painting which is a required step. We can also use abrasive blasting to create a textured surface on the face of a part which is another form of sanding but is done using air pressure and grains of media. This is an additional cost and therefore custom.
Painting
We use paint to either change the color of a part, give it a different sheen, reduce layer line surface visibility and improve the parts durability (depending on material) there are certain constraints that would limit the effectiveness of the paint, such as high temperature polymers. This is an additional cost and therefore custom.
Polishing
We can polish the parts when paint is an option that is chosen, this allows the Sheen of the paint to be more reflective/glossy if that is the desired quality and finish requested. This is an additional cost and therefore custom.
